Masterclass Workshop Descriptions
Care for your Back
In this session we will look at the different types of posture. Karen will then help you to analyse your own posture to give you a better understanding of how it may be improved to support your back. After some release work on the hips and pelvis, we will work through a series of simple exercises, which support the back and some gentle stretches to elongate the back and give it greater flexibility. To quote the great Joseph Pilates, “You are as old as your spine”.
There will be an element of working with a partner.
Release, Relax & Rejuvenate
Karen will take you through a series of gentle release work. Including some stretching, breathing and work on the myofascial release ball. The session will end with a guided meditation aimed at complete relaxation.
Myofascial Release Part 1 & 2
Fascia has been described as spiderweb like fibres that surround every muscle, tendon, ligament and cell in our bodies. Some call it Connective Tissue, but it is more than that. Through the activities of our daily lives this fascia can be put under strain or tension particularly if we experience any emotional or physical trauma. The fascia may then tighten or harden around the area of trauma and if it is never released will continue to tighten around the tissue until a painful condition is felt.
Fascia responds quickly and easily to gentle pressure and breathing techniques. Using a specifically designed ball to create gentle pressure we will release the fascia through a technique called Myofascial Release.
Part 1 will concentrate on releasing the fascia around the pelvis, backs of the legs, bottom, back, shoulders and neck.
Part 2 will concentrate on releasing the fascia around the arms, lower legs and front of the body.
Both classes will involve an element of balance and supporting yourself with your own body strength, but nothing more strenuous than a Pilates class. Part 2 will require participants to work in pairs.
A combination of Pilates and Yoga designed to help you Stretch, Breath and Relax, whilst improving your Core Strength, Flexibility and Balance.
